As WomenCARE celebrates its 18th birthday this month, we are deeply humbled by the journey we’ve shared with so many women with cancer throughout the years…and deeply challenged by the current economic hurdles.

WomenCARE is not unique in the economic challenges we face – you’ve probably seen the recent news reports about the struggles in the non-profit world. But WomenCARE is unique in the support services we provide women with cancer…and their families and friends. And because our commitment to serving our clients remains so strong, we are also committed to readjusting our organizational model to continue to meet those needs. We can’t stop now.

We’ve come too far…

By now you know the WomenCARE story: “birthed” by a group of women with cancer, nurtured by a community who cares deeply about our mission, sustained through the most difficult of times. We’ve come so far in the past 18 years. We’ve come so far in the past 18 months. And we have continued to strengthen the foundation upon which the organization stands. But we are not out of the woods yet. This past year has shown us that we must do what so many other non-profits are doing. We must re-form and re-create.

We’re doing our part…

We have a plan to sustain the organization with a reduced annual budget. We’re doing our part to make it work. This includes:

Renegotiating the lease on our Santa Cruz office or moving to smaller quarters that are more affordable.
Redefining staff roles, responsibilities and work schedules.
Raising $85,000 through our annual bowling benefit and other community fundraisers.
Raising $70,000 in grant funds.
Reaching out to a wider community for increased financial support.

But we can’t make this work without you.

We need you…again, or for the first time. We need to raise $20,000 from individuals like you for this next quarter. We’re asking everyone who cares about WomenCARE – everyone who wants to ensure that women with cancer in Santa Cruz County, and their families, receive support and care – please give generously and please give today.
